Trump wins the White House in political comeback rooted in appeals to frustrated voters: Donald Trump has been elected the 47th president of the United States, an extraordinary comeback for a former president who refused to accept defeat four years ago, sparked a violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, was convicted of felony charges and survived two assassination attempts. The Associated Press officially called the race for Trump Wednesday morning after the Republican won Wisconsin, clearing the 270 electoral votes needed to clinch the presidency. The GOP also reclaimed a Senate majority, while control of the House is still up for grabs.
Mannion ousts Williams in House race: Democrat John Mannion defeated Republican Rep. Brandon Williams Tuesday in the race for the 22nd Congressional District seat, one of the nation’s most hotly contested House elections. Mannion, a state senator from Geddes, becomes only the third Democrat in the past 60 years to win the Syracuse-based seat in Congress.
