Finally, a Donation Badges book in English!
This is the follow-up book to Winterhilfswerk National Street/House Collections & More - A Collector's Guide.
The items represented in this book fall into two major categories.
The first category includes items from organizations other than the Winterhilfswerk des Deutschen Volkes (WHW).
The second category includes items given out in the name of the WHW by surrogate groups.
The tokens distributed by the organizations in both categories often are identified by buyers and sellers as WHW items, so these items often are generically referred to as WHWs.
This book does not cover the WHW National or Gau collections unless these National or Gau items fall into the surrogate group category.
The National items can be found in our first book,
Winterhilfswerk National Street Collections and More - A Collector’s Guide,
1 October 2011.  The attached page scans are not as clear as the actual book, which is crystal clear.  Your front cover may be a little different.
    Charitable and other organizations
    :
    Before
1933, individual charitable organizations conducted their own street collections.
These organizations typically gave each contributor a token of thanks for their generosity. Desiring to bring these disparate charitable organizations under one roof, the Winterhilfswerk des Deutschen Volkes (WHW) was designated as the primary charitable organization and started to exert control over these other groups.
The smaller organizations had street collections with the accompanying tokens until about 1936.
The larger groups, such as the German Youth Hostels and German Red Cross, were able to hold onto their identity and continued to have collections throughout the war, usually once a year.
The other organizations tended to be special interest groups supporting a particular cause or agenda.
The charitable and other organizations represented in this book in the order in which they appear (with the number of pieces listed in the book) include:
    German Youth Hostels (111 pieces)
